Functions and Tasks of Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands

 

    Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands is a research center belonged to Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. Its predecessor is   Institute of Social Sciences of Central Regions and Central Highlands which was divided into two institutes as Institute of Regional Sustainable Development and Institute of Central Highlands Sustainable Development.  In early 2009, President of VASS issued the Decision no.225/KHXH-QĐ in   22nd February 2009 on functions, tasks, rights and organization structure of Institute of Central Highlands Sustainable Development (Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands now) and the Institute officially operated in this year.

Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands has functions of conducting the basic theories and practices on social sciences of central highlands; providing scientific base for building orientations, setting up policies for a rapid and sustainable development of region; undertaking the functions of providing the postgraduate training in the field of social sciences and development consultancy; and taking part in developing the potential of social sciences of the region. 

Major Achievements

Organize and implement research projects and programs on basic sciences and its application at Ministry, industry and local level

Scientific research is the prior political and core task of Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands during its establishment and development. In the past 4 years, Institute has organized and conducted 6 scientific research topics which are Basic investigation of ethnics in Central region (2007-2009); Organization and activities of villages’ activity in Central Highland in a sustainable growth (State level topic - 2009); The development reality in Central Highlands and some issues of sustainable growth (Ministry level topic - 2010); Basic issues of Central Highlands Economy in a sustainable growth (Ministry level topic - 2011); Basic issues of Central Highlands Culture in a sustainable growth  (Ministry level topic - 2011).

Six topics above were published into books with same names and they are the results and achievements of doing social sciences researches of Central Highlands’s land and people in the sustainable growth, reflecting through some following contributions:

Firstly, to clarify the organization and villages activities of Central Highlands in the field of economy, society, culture, environmental conservation so on. New impacts and changes of organization and village’s activities as well as some recommendations have contributed to the building of minority ethnics in Central Highlands in a sustainable way. 

Secondly, to clarify the reality and basic issues of some fields related to the sustainable growth as economy, society, culture and environmental conservation through doing surveys on traditional values. As a result, they can determine the viewpoints and solutions to basic issues as economy, society, culture, environmental conservation in Central highlands in the circumstance of sustainable growth today.

Thirdly, to review the epic in modern life of Central Highlands people and demand of using this epic then provide solutions to bring epics back Central Highlands’ village. 

 Also, Institute has some topics and projects which are being implemented such as Social management in Ba Na area of Gia Lai province: The reality, issues and trending (Ministry level topic - 2012); Rules of E De in Dak Lak in the sustainable growth (Ministry level topic - 2012); The role of minority ethnics in the sustainable growth of Central Highlands (Ministry level topic in period of 2013- 2014); The role of traditional culture of minority ethnics in the sustainable growth of Central Highlands since 1986 (Ministry level topic in the period of 2013 - 2014); Annual report of 2009 of Institute of Central Highlands Sustainable Development (basic research); Annual report of 2010 of Institute of Central Highlands Sustainable Development (basic research); Changes of intangible culture of Tay people after immigration in 1975 in  Cu Kwin of Dak Lak province and some related issues …

Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands have been conducting many research topics with scientific organizations and local technological offices as Traditional culture of Mo Nong and changes of modern society (with Fund of Sciences and Technology Development in the period of 2012 – 2013); Traditional culture of E De people in the sustainable growth of Dac Lac (with Dac Lac Technological Sciences Office in the period of 2012 to 2013); Socio – cultural solutions to control social issues and negative rules of Hmong and Thai ethnics in Dien Bien (with Dien Bien Technological Sciences Office in the period of 2012 to 2013); Moi (name of a cultural activity of Muong people) and its role in the spiritual life of Muong people in Hoa Binh (with Hoa Binh Technological Sciences Office in the period of 2012 to 2013) …

Improve the international collaboration in the field of sciences

In the framework of international collaboration about sciences, Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands has sent many researchers to Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Thailand, Australia and France for doing surveys, researches, and scientific exchange and learning. They have joined in many seminars and discussed about the research results in these workshops.

Publish many scientific works with high quality and received good evaluation

In the development of Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands, researchers have published many books and had articles on specialized magazines. Some remarkable works are Organization and village activities in the sustainable growth of Central Highlands by Dr. Bui Minh Dao (Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 2010); The development reality of Central Highlands and some issues of the sustainable growth by Dr. Bui Minh Dao (Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 2011); The development reality of ethnics in Central regions and its issues by Dr. Bui Minh Dao (Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 2012); Traditional Literature of E De, Mo Nong by Associate Prof. Dr. Do Hong Ky (Labor Publishing House, Hanoi, 2012); Some basic issues of Tay Nguyen economy in the sustainable growth by Dr. Bach Hong Viet (Social Sciences Publishing House, Hanoi, 2012).

Magazines

Magazine of Social Sciences of Central Highlands is a specialized magazine and the mouthpiece of Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands. It was established in 2011 and is improving its article quality with more stable operations after 2 years of development. Up to now, magazine has had near 80 research papers and published scientific information for promotion of strategies and policies of Communist Party and Government as well as laws of State. The magazine is also a channel for exchanging scientific information and knowledge in the fields of economy, society, culture, and environment of Central Highlands and people here in the sustainable growth.

Information, document and library

In the 4 years of development, Institute’s management always notice to the technical and material conditions and resources related to activities as information, document, and library; to build the database and a system ò specialized scientific information in order to meet the higher demands and try to be the library of region in next 10 years.  Up to now, social sciences library of central highlands has had near 2000 books, local and foreign research documents belonged to fields as economy, society, culture, ethnography, humanity, religion, history and archeology…

Human resources and Training

Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands had only 10 officers with poor working conditions when it was first established in 2009. With the effort of all member of Institute and the support of President of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Institute’s board of management has built a new office building for 20 officers from an abandoned place as well as implemented the political tasks assigned by leaders of the academy.  After 4 years, the structure and resources of Institute are stable and work efficiently. The Institute keeps improving the quality of their researchers as well as issues regulations for Institute’s operations.  

The members of Institute of Social Sciences of Central Highlands always try their best for a united group and follow the instructions of Communist party, State’s law and the regulations of Institute. Board of management always takes care of improving the working conditions, the cultural, spiritual and material life of each staff.  

The above achievements are the effort and hardworking of all researchers of Institute during its establishment and development. As a result, Institute was received the award of excellent team from President of VASS while many individuals of the Institute received the certification of "Emulation Fighter at Institute of Social Sciences of Vietnam”, “Emulation Fighter at grassroots level” and "Progressive Labor"…
