The Awarding Ceremony of the Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette to Professor Duong Phu Hiep

On the morning of August 21th, 2020, at Prof. Duong Phu Hiep’s house, room 101, lane 37 Kim Ma Thuong st., Ba Dinh distric, Hanoi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam - Mr. Yamada Takio awarded the noble Order of the Rising Sun of Japanese Goverment to Professor Duong Phu Hiep, former Director of the Center for Japanese Studies, Institute for Northeast Asian Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) for the Professor's great contributions in laying the foundation for Japanese studies in Vietnam, contributing to building and developing the friendship between Vietnam - Japan.

Accompanying the Ambassador were Ms. Tsu Jimoto Chika, Head of Political Department, First Secretary and Ms. Udagawa Mai, Third Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Vietnam. On the side of VASS, there were Associate Professor.Dr Pham Quy Long, Director of the Institute for Northeast Asian Studies; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duy Loi, Deputy Director of the Institute for Northeast Asian Studies; Dr. Phung Ngoc Tan, Head of the Organization and Personnel Committee; MSc. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of International Cooperation Department and representatives of Professor's family, colleagues and students.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam - Mr. Yamada Takio presented the Order of the Rising Sun of Japanese Goverment to Professor Duong Phu Hiep

Making a congratulatory speech at the ceremony, on behalf of the Japanese State, Mr. Yamada Takio expressed his pleasure to visit and present the Noble Order of the Rising Sun of Japan to Professor Duong Phu Hiep; acknowledged and highly appreciated Professor's dedication to building and training specialized Japanese studies in Vietnam in many fields (economy, society, culture), contributing to enhancing understanding, creating a solid foundation for the Vietnam-Japan relationship as well as developing academic and scholars exchanges and promoting mutual understanding between scientists of the two countries.

With the current complicated developments in the world and the region, the Ambassador wished to further promote the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries on the potential development fields in security, energy and defense. In particular, the year 2023 will be the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan, the Ambassador wished to further strengthen the academic cooperation between the two sides and continue to receive attention, support from professors and scientists of the Academy in the coming time.

The representative of the family, on behalf of Professor Duong Phu Hiep, the eldest daughter Mrs. Duong Thi Hong Nhung expressed her honor and pride in receiving the Order of the Rising Sun of Japan awarded by the Ambassador Plenipotentiary of Japan; the family would like to thank and express their emotions to the presence of the Ambassador, First Secretary and Third Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, for their valuable time to visit their family and award the Noble Order of the Rising Sun of Japanese State for Professor.

On behalf of the Organization and Personnel Committee - VASS, speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Phung Ngoc Tan warmly congratulated Professor, who devoted his whole life to the national science, made great achievements contributing to further strengthening and tightening the friendship between Vietnam and Japan. This is an honor and pride for the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

Representative of the Institute for North East Asian Studies, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Quy Long expressed his honor and pride, especially honoring the contributions of Professor Duong Phu Hiep who laid the first foundation to build and construct researching on Japan, recognized by the Government of Japan and awarded noble Order.

In a solemn and warm atmosphere, on behalf of all cadres, civil servants, and employees of the Academy, the leaders of the Institute of Northeast Asian Studies and representatives of the Organization and Personnel Committee - VASS respectfully thanks for the sincere feelings of the Government, the Royal Family and the Ambassador of Japan for acknowledging the scientific contributions of Professor Duong Phu Hiep to the development of the friendship between the two countries. Accordingly, VASS’s scientists in particular and all Vietnamese citizens in general have the responsibility to build, inherit and foster the good relationship between Vietnam and Japan to a new height.
