President Bui Nhat Quang welcomed Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam - Dr. Saleh Adibi

In the afternoon of December 26, 2019, at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Nhat Quang, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) met and worked with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Vietnam - Dr. Saleh Adibi.

Accompanying the Ambassador were Mr. Sayed Mahdi Borghei, Third Secretary of the Embassy; Ms. Tran Thi Thai Ha, Secretary of the Ambassador and the Interpreter Officer. On the side of VASS, there were Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Director of International Cooperation Department, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Phuoc Minh, Director of Institute of African and Middle East Studies; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nhu Trong Bach, Deputy Director of VASS, Secretary of President of VASS, and staffs of the International Cooperation Department.

 

The meeting panorama

Vietnam - Iran has established diplomatic relations since 1973. In 1991, Iran opened an Embassy in Hanoi and in 1997, Vietnam opened an Embassy in Teheran. In 2009, the Vietnam - Iran Friendship Association was established. Iran is the Islamic Republic, rich in cultural identity, with the Persian civilization (Persia), with civilized heritage and a long history of thousands of years; is a country with an important position and role in the region. In recent years, VASS has had a lot of cooperation with partners from Iran. At the meeting, President Bui Nhat Quang thanked and warmly welcomed Mr. Pranay Verma and members of the delegation to visit and work at VASS. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Nhat Quang shared that this is the first time he welcomed the Ambassador as the role of President of VASS. The President himself during the time working as the Director of the Institute of African and Middle East Studies has had long time research on Middle Eastern countries, of which Iran was the focus.

The two sides have had certain relationships over the years, through cooperative exchanges with Iranian partners such as Ministry of Science and Technology,  Ministry of Education and Training, the Teheran University, and the International Research and Training Center under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ... the two sides have had certain relationships but are still modest compared to the potential and advantages available for both sides.

The President of VASS expressed his wish that in the coming time, he would always receive the support of the Ambassador, especially in the fields of research and training to develop high-quality human resources; promote more strongly to improve cooperation between the two sides based on the strengths and potentials of each party.

Ambassador Saleh Adibi on behalf of the Government of Iran congratulated the achievements and results Government of Vietnam and the people of Vietnam achieved in 2019, thanked the Government and people of Vietnam for supporting the Goverment and Iranian people on international forums in recent years; at the same time recognized the achievements in recent years of both Vietnam and Iran.

The Ambassador affirmed that 2020 was an important year for Vietnam, when became Chairman of ASEAN, a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term 2020-2021. The two sides still have a lot of potential for cooperation, especially in the field of science and technology in the context of the 4th industrial revolution. The Ambassador desired and promoted further cooperation between the two sides such as gaving scholarships for students and researchers in Vietnam, boosting the visit to Iran of National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan in early 2020, etc. The Ambassador said that the meeting had reached agreement and was very satisfied about the way things worked as well as the spirit of mutual trust.

The meeting ended successfully, through specific discussions on cooperation contents, the two sides showed that the cooperation and support of the Iranian Embassy in Vietnam, as well as the readiness for official cooperation between VASS and Iran's research and training agencies will directly contribute to the development of bilateral relations to a new and more effective level in the near future./.
