Seminar "ASEAN-China cooperation in a new context"

On the occasion of the visit and work of Hoa Tai in Vietnam, in the afternoon of March 14, 2019, at No. 1 Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) in collaboration with Hoa Tai organized a seminar on "ASEAN - China cooperation in the new context".

Attending the seminar, from Hoa Tai, there were: Mr. An Nguyet Quan (An Yuejun), General Secretary of Hoa Tai, Head of the delegation; Yang Lei, Yang Asia-Pacific Head; Ms. Ton Ba Van (Sun Bowen), Researcher, General Department; Ms. Niu Na (Niu Na), Researcher, Asia-Pacific Committee.

From VASS, there were: Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of the International Cooperation Department; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Director of Institute of Southeast Asian Studies; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong, Director of Institute of China Studies; Dr. Le Thi Hang Nga, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Indian and Asian Research Journal, together with the participation of experts and scientists from institutes under VASS and from International Cooperation Department.

Hoa Tai is the abbreviation for the Chinese People's Association for Peace and Disarmment (CPAPD). Hoa Tai is one of China's largest peace NGOs with a total of 24 members. Currently, Hoa Tai is led by President Han Khoi Duc (Han Qide), Vice President of the National Assembly of China, leading a number of Committees of the National Assembly and the Government and some research organizations of China as well as some universities participating in the Council (Presidium) to actively implement external activities in the bilateral and multilateral people’s external forum. Hoa Tai is an organization directly led by the Central Committee for Foreign Affairs of Communist Party of China. The Secretariat is structured as a Department of Foreign Affairs, with studies rooms and a magazine in English namely "Peace". The current General Secretary is Mr. An Nguyet Quan.

Hoa Tai's goal is to strengthen the understanding, friendship and mutual cooperation between Chinese people and people all over the world in preserving peace, opposing armed race and war in order to control armed and disarmament, fight for the cause of preventing and completely destroying nuclear weapons and other kind of weapons. At the same time, to protect the ecological environment and promote economic development and social progress.

Hoa Tai has conducted foreign activities primarily through bilateral relations with peace organizations, especially with neighboring countries and regions, and operated on multilateral forums on peace, security such as World Peace Council; World Peace Forum; institutes of peace and security studies in some countries and universities; NGOs operating in the area of peace and security such as Pugwash Foundation for science and international affairs; Organization research on weapons disarmament, ...

While actively participating in research on global issues such as armed control, disarmament, peace and security, Hoa Tai has sponsored and co-financed many seminars every year, sent experts and PhD students to international conferences and seminars, and welcome delegates from abroad.

Speaking at the seminar, MA. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of the International Cooperation Department warmly welcomed the delegation to visit and work at the Academy and gave an overview of the development process, functions and missions of VASS. ..

In response to the Head of the International Cooperation Department, Mr. An Nguyet Quan, Head of Hoa Tai delegation was honored to lead the Hoa Tai delegation to visit and work at VASS; At the same time, he emphasized that Hoa Tai has have relations with Vietnam since 1992, after the two countries normalized their relations, Hoa Tai has have relations with the Vietnam Peace Committee, according to the bilateral agreement that the two sides often send delegations to visit each other annually. In addition, there are delegations attending a number of international forums or conferences related to peace and security. Mr. An Nguyet Quan would like to share some concerns with experts from VASS such as: Vietnam - China relationship, opportunities and challenges currently encountered; Opinion on Belt and Road Initiative; Current security situation in Asia - Pacific region; Chinese-American competition…

 

The Seminar panorama

The seminar was very open with deep exchanges and judgment from both sides, many discussion questions of the participants were also shared. The two parties agreed to cooperate, often meet and discuss issues of mutual concern, contributing to tightening the good strategic cooperation relationship between Vietnam and China.
