On January 2008, Social Sciences Publishing House published the book named “The cultural diversity and talks between cultures – a perspective from Vietnam” by Prof. Dr. Pham Xuan Nam. The book is formed based on the outcomes of Ministry-level Project under the same name of the author.
The book has six chapters. 1st chapter: The awareness of cultural diversity and talks between cultures. 2nd chapter: The activities created original cultural values of the nation in Van Lan – Au Co Times. 3rd chapter: To combine cultural talks with many other kinds of fighting under the period of Chinese domination of Vietnam. 4th chapter: Talks between Dai Viet Culture and other cultures in region and all over the world in contemporary context. 5th chapter: Contacts, exchanges, and talks are expanded between Vietnamese culture and other cultures all over the world in early modern period. 6th chapter: The historical lesson and contemporary issues of prompting national cultural identities, to actively join in talks between cultures in globalization period.
The author analyzed many perspectives of the progress of creating inner culture to go with the progress of cultural contacts, exchanges and talks with external carried out by Vietnamese ethnics groups during significant historical periods. Among them, Viet’s culture – the majority ethnic group – is the main culture plays the role of summarizing, combining other special cultural values of other ethnic groups. The aspects are mentioned by author including: language, writings, beliefs, moral, laws, literature, arts, religions, and other dimensions of material culture. At the same time, to study the aspect of relationship between culture and economics, politics, society, and defining the role of cultural talks in promoting socio-economic development of the country, solving disputes peacefully, forming and strengthening diplomatic relation of Vietnam and other countries in the world.
