In the cultural heritage of the ancestors, we only have incomplete segments to sketch the natural connections. The research on the prehistoric cultural relationship between North Vietnam and South China helps us see clearly the material, cultural and social bases of the two regions, create a common area forming the ancient kingdom of South China. The book entitled “Prehistoric cultural relationship between North Vietnam and South China” is formulated after many years of collecting materials, researching and directly basing on the result of the Ministry-level theme performance led by Dr. Trinh Nang Chung. The book covers 382 pages, 64 photos and illustrative drawings published by the Social Science Publishing House.

The author summarized and collected available materials on the findings and researches so far on the prehistoric cultures (old stone and new stone) in North Vietnam and South China. Based on such materials, the author tried sketching main development steps together with the similarities and differences between regions in the prehistory; contributed to studying the general development trend as well as complicacy and multidirectional overlapping in the cultural exchange of ancient residential communities in North Vietnam and South China.

The author surveyed and studied some typical prehistoric cultures in the Northern mountainous area in Vietnam and in South China (with focus on Guang Xi and Guang Dong) as well as studying more about landscape and environment. Then, the author generalized basic cultural characteristics of each area in the context of specific ecological environment. Based on comparing the prehistoric archaeological materials in North Vietnam and South China, the author tried to analyze the cultural identity of the ancient residential communities in the area, concurrently clarifying the influence of cultural exchange in the prehistory occurring in the connotation of the ancient kingdom of South China in South China and North Vietnam.

The author studied and systematized the distribution space, determined historic site characteristics of prehistoric cultures and prehistoric cultural relationship between North Vietnam and South China as well as initially pointing out the position of North Vietnam and South China in the prehistoric cultural context.

The book is expected to help those who are fond of the long, old and creative past of the country history get full awareness of cultural connections in the stone period between North Vietnam and South China.
