With the decision No. 689/TTg dated 24 October 1995 of the Prime Minister, Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (Museum) was official established. In the past 15 years, the Museum has been gradually built and developed, achieved a lot of important achievements in all aspects: Research, collection, preservation, exhibition, cultural introduction... about the local and international ethnic groups. On the basis of the scientific and practical activities, the Museum has had the very valuable publications, including the system of research works of Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, the first publication of this system was introduced to the readers for the first time in 1999 and up to now it is the 7th volume, when the Museum was 15 years old.
As a non-periodic publication of the research results, the publication Research works of Vietnam Museum of Ethnology both reflects the diversified activities of the Museum and significant to gather the research results on anthropology/ ethnology. Each book, whether thick or thin is also as a forum for many authors to present a lot of different professional, operational issues that the Museum embraces and wants to introduce to readers.
In addition to the above significance, the Research works of Vietnam Museum of Ethnology volume 7 was also published on the occasion of the 15th founding anniversary of Museum. In the book content, there are some articles in the angle of re-acknowledging some operation fields of the Museum in the past stage both in the aspect of achievement, experience and the issues for the development of the Museum. Besides, like 6 previous volumes, the book also publishes the intensive research subjects on some aspect of the life and culture of the ethnic groups.
