Northeast Asian countries like Japan, Korea, China, and Taiwan have reaped remarkable economic achievements. However, economic development is not without tradeoffs, which can include demographic, equality, familial, and religious problems. Japan must deal with an aging population, gender inequality, and religious problems, Korea with demographic changes, multi-cultural families, and social welfare, China with population structure, and Taiwan with social inequality and foreign brides. Vietnam is a rapidly industrializing and modernizing country and is facing numerous socioeconomic problems. As such, we can learn a lot from our forerunners, the Northeast Asian countries and put that knowledge to good use.

These issues are of central importance in the work titled “How Northeast Asian countries cope with social evolution”, authored by Tran Thi Nhung PhD and published by the Social Sciences Publishing House and the Institute for Northeast Asian Studies. The book features three chapters:

Chapter 1 covers social evolution as it occurs in Northeast Asian countries and territories, such as: aging populations (higher number of elders in proportion to number of births); social inequality; shift from traditional to modern families; religious conflicts…

Chapter 2 analyzes measures taken by a number of Northeast Asian countries and territories to cope with social evolution, which involves minimizing adverse impacts and promoting healthy relationships within society,…

Chapter 3 makes mention of valuable lessons Vietnam can learn  pertaining to such matters as: demographic changes, segregation based on wealth, social relationships,…
