The book is the product of the joint efforts of Vietnamese and South Korean scholars. It received extensive support from the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Korea Foundation.

In the 1990s, especially toward the end of the decade, Vietnam and South Korea intensified their partnership in many areas, particularly economics, politics, national defense, culture, science, and technology. This was a time that marked the two countries efforts to enhance both the depth and breadth of their cooperation.

The authors analyze and assess Vietnam – Korea relations during the period from when the two countries officially established diplomatic ties in 1992 to the end of the first decade of the 21st century (in 2009 Vietnam and Korea elevated their relationship to that of a strategic partnership). In conducting analysis of Vietnam-South Korea relations, a multi-faceted approach is taken to tackle matters of critical importance: politics, diplomacy, economics, trade, human resources development, cultural interaction, and science and technology.

The book includes three parts. Part 1: Factors affecting Vietnam-South Korea relations. This chapter covers the overall factors that affect Vietnam-South Korea relations in the early stages of the 21st century. The start of their diplomatic relationship in this millennium was marked by the signing of a mutual diplomatic agreement in 2001.

Chapter 2: Forecasts, assessments, and analyses of many facets of Vietnam-South Korea relations: politics, diplomacy, cultural cooperation, education, and science and technology. The reality is that relations between these two countries are improving. And the aforementioned areas are the most important in a collateral relationship between two countries.

Part 3: Solutions to enhance relations between the two countries. Analyses on the outlook and direction of the relationship.

We hope you enjoy the book.
