The book is the research result of the Project implemented by the Institute of Asian Studies and Research Center for Global Administration under University of Leuven (Belgium) in the coordination with the sponsor of Vietnam National Foundation for Science & Technology Development and Flander Foundation (Belgium) in the period 2010-2011.

The excessive emission of greenhouse gases is one of the reasons to the climate change and its consequence is the global warming and sea level rise. This is a biggest challenge for the mankind in the 21st century. The countries around the world have been cooperating together to solve this problem on the basis of the Framework Convention on Climate Change of the United Nations and the Kyoto Protocol.

As one of the countries that is most affected by climate change, Vietnam is very interested in this issue and is one of the countries in the Asia - Pacific region participating most actively in the activities to mitigate the impact of climate change proposed by the United Nations. Vietnam signed the Framework Convention on Climate Change on 11 June 1994, signed the Kyoto Protocol on 3 December 1998 and approved on 25 December 2002.

The book “Vietnam - European Union Relations in the implementation of clean development mechanism in the period 2011-2020 period” mentions to the following issues:

Firstly: analyze the main content of clean development mechanism and the role of clean development mechanism in response to global climate change.

Secondly: analyze some response mechanisms and policies of the European Union on climate change as well as assess the actual state, implementation experience, cooperation between the European Union and China and some Southeast Asian countries.

Thirdly: analyze the response policies to climate change and sustainable development of Vietnam, analyze the policies and practical implementation of clean development mechanism as well as the public – private cooperation mechanism in the implementation of clean development mechanism in Vietnam.

Fourthly: assess the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the European Union in the implementation of clean development mechanism and propose some solutions to promote the cooperation between the two sides in order to contribute to speeding up the rapid, sustainable development, contribute to the environmental protection and response to climate change in Vietnam.

The book content is presented in 4 chapters. Chapter 1: Clean development mechanism in response to global climate change. Chapter 2: The European Union in the implementation strategy of global clean development mechanism. Chapter 3: The clean development mechanism in Vietnam: Policy and actual state of implementation. Chapter 4: The cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the European Union in the implementation of clean development mechanism to 2020.

Hopefully, the book “Vietnam - European Union relations in the implementation of clean development mechanism in the period 2011-2020” will contribute to enriching more the understanding of Vietnam and European Union relations for readers.
