Han Nom monography is the diversified material source that reflects various aspects including history, geography, celebrities, historic sites, culture, products, people, customs and habits of each locality. This material source has been attentively used by many researchers and researches. However, it is hardly interpreted, corrected and edited and announced systematically.

The research and translation program aimed at socializing Han Nom materials by the Institute of Han Nom Studies over the past years has placed special attention to the monography written in Chinese characters and classic Vietnamese characters. The Institute has collected, corrected, edited and interpreted Han Nom monographies in the Northern Vietnam provinces such as Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Son Tay, Cao Bang, Lang Son and Thai Binh.

In 2008, the Institute of Han Nom Studies, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences translated and published the book entitled “Bac Ninh Province monography through Han Nom materials” in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Khac Thuan is the chief editor. The Han Nom monography of other provinces will be continually collected, translated, corrected and edited and published in the coming years.
