To mark a new development in the method of studying Confucianism thought in Vietnam, concurrently focusing on studying and exploiting value of Han Nom materials related to Confucianism in Vietnam from interdisciplinary approach (philosophy, culture, literature, history, religion and ethnicity, etc.), the Institute of Han Nom Studies (directly under Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences), together with the Institute of Harvard - Yenching (USA) selected among speeches registered to attend the Workshop to publish the Summary record of the International Workshop on Confucianism with the above theme.

The book focuses on four main contents:

First, Confucianism history process in Vietnam. The speeches focused on studying the history of Vietnamese Confucianism development stages, the relationship between Vietnamese Confucianism and the countries of the same literature. For example, the speech by the Assoc. Prof Tran Nghia (Institute of Han Nom Studies) generalized the development history of Vietnamese Confucianism. The author classified Vietnamese Confucianism from the introduction to the August 1945 Revolution into 3 development periods and 7 different types of Confucianism.

Second, Circulation and receipt of Vietnamese Confucian Classics. The speeches paid attention to studying Vietnamese Confucian classics in various aspects, from introducing the overall background to analyzing intensive content, and brought about to the Workshop the more comprehensive and profound view on Vietnamese Confucian classics. Prof. Lam Khanh Chuong and Luu Xuan Ngan (Taiwan) introduced and analyzed 349 Vietnamese Confucianism documents, contributing to establishing the catalogue of Vietnamese Confucianism in Chinese. In addition, the speeches also mentioned the interpretation of Vietnamese Confucian classics under the influence of Chinese Confucian classics, traditional identity of Vietnamese Confucian classics. These are quite valuable documents in the Vietnamese culture.

Third, Research on Confucianism in Vietnam under interdisciplinary approach. This topic is the forum for the scholars to study Confucianism from various aspects. Vietnamese Confucianism, after reaching the zenith in the Le dynasty, governed all fields of the social life, i.e. political social thought, art and literature and some other issues such as socioeconomic activities, belief, ethnicity and religion.

Forth, Confucianism in the today period. This topic is aimed at studying how Vietnamese Confucianism was penetrated intensively and extensively in all walks of life, made the cultural life of Vietnamese community diversified. Nowadays, Confucianism still plays a vital role in the construction of advanced and traditional Vietnamese culture. Some speeches focused on evaluating the role of Vietnamese Confucianism in the history from the viewpoint of a present researcher. Some other speeches focused on analyzing the family and village tradition of Vietnamese people in the social movement, with the governance of Confucianism philosophy, emphasized that the Vietnamese people have tradition of respecting their family, respecting human dignity and lifestyle, and also the worshipping of ancestors, funeral and wedding.
