Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) organized the closing ceremony of the training course on interdisciplinary research methodologies on 24 September 2013.
The ceremony received the attendance of Dr. Tran Minh Tuan, Director of Organization and Personnel Department; Dr. Pham Minh Phuc, Deputy Director of Organization and Personnel Department; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Mai Huong, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Tuan, and Dr. Pham Quynh Phuong as the lecturers and all participants.
The objective of the training course was to provide junior researchers of VASS with valuable and practical knowledge in order to improve their capability of doing interdisciplinary research. The course was also made compliant with the development master plan of VASS in 2010 with the orientations to 2020 to reach the goal of “developing VASS into a nationally and internationally prestigious and influential center of scientific research and training”. It also aimed at gradually “increasing the quality of research and training activities in order to better serve the rapid and sustainable development process of the country”.
The training course includes 16 subjects, divided into three phases. Phase 1 was a fundamental program comprising six subjects for all participants. An essay was required for every student at the end of Phase 1. Based on their study results after the fundamental program, qualified participants were selected by the organization board to take part in Phase 2 (an advanced program with 10 subjects). In Phase 3, participants of the advanced program joined together for local field trips.

Dr. Tran Minh Tuan was pleased when appraising the performance of the training course 2013. In general, the course produced good outcomes. Senior researchers were committed with high responsibility to give the lectures on interdisciplinary research methodologies in social sciences, while the participants showed their commitment and self-discipline following the class rules and attended all lectures. The quality of essays by participants was of standard. The lowest and highest scores were 5 and 8.5 points respectively. Most of the essays, however, reached scores from 7 to 7.5 points.
Based on the course results, the President of VASS signed Decision No. 1435/QĐ- KHXH dated 23 September 2013 to award 39 participants with Completion Certificate of the Training Course on Interdisciplinary Research Methodologies in Social Sciences 2013. Seven certificates were issued for the advanced program and 32 others for the fundamental program.
Dr. Tran Minh Tuan and Dr. Pham Minh Phuc offered the certificates for participants and gave thanks to lecturers with flowers.
