Expanding Boundaries: Ethnicity, Materiality and Spirituality
The 13th conference of ISARS explores the interactions between ethnicity, materiality and spirituality. We welcome contributions from various disciplines and encourage submissions that discuss issues of identity, practices of spirituality and material culture. Understanding how ethnic identity and spiritual performativity play out in social and ritual spaces allow us to highlight the multitude of practices and the social importance of aspects of material culture. Material culture tells us much about the construction of memory, history and change. We encourage submissions that discuss the connection between artifacts and associations to ethnic identity, the relation between spirituality and materiality (in a broad sense of the term) in ritual context, as well as theoretical contributions that explore the construction of museums in relation to spiritual practices.
Call for Papers/Sessions Proposal
Please send your paper title and abstract (max.250 words) and/or your session proposal (max 300 words) on the main theme of the conference in a word document by May 20th, 2017 to: lathuyvme@yahoo.com)
Session organizer(s) are requested to indicate the general title of the session, a brief description of the main topic (max. 300 words), number, names and affiliation of participants. Sessions should include a minimum of 4 participants and a maximum of 6.
Please note that the Scientific Committee will review and select the papers and session proposals. The selected papers and sessions will be announced in the end of May 2017.

Conference Registration
Participation fee is 120 euros. All the details about modalities of payment of the fee and options regarding accommodation will be announced soon.
Please note that all regular delegates and non-delegates in the conference are required to additionally pay their 2017 membership fee for ISARS either online (through ISARS website: http://www.isars.org/membership/), either during on the spot, during their registration in Vietnam. Accompanying family members of regular delegates may participate in the conference without becoming member of ISARS. The membership fee includes a printed copy of the journal SHAMAN. Regular members: 60,00 euros, Student/Unemployed Members: 35,00 euros ”
