International scientific conference "Social recovery and adaptation in the new normal of the Covid-19 epidemic"

On the morning of November 10, 2021, at the headquarters at No. 1 Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences coordinated with the UNESCO Sub-Committee on Social Sciences to organize an international workshop "Restoring recovery and social adaptation in the new normal of the Covid-19 epidemic”. The Covid-19 epidemic continues to develop complicatedly on a global scale, having a great influence on the socio-economic development, life, health and life of people in many countries around the world and the region area. The World Health Organization (WHO), scientists and countries currently believe that the Covid-19 epidemic is unlikely to be controlled before 2023. However, the coverage of vaccines and therapeutic drugs will help reduce the number of severe cases, deaths and reduce the incidence rate. Therefore, many countries have changed their response strategies to the Covid-19 epidemic from trying to stamp out the epidemic completely to living safely with the disease, Vietnam is also in that trend.
 
On October 11, 2021, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Resolution No. 128/NQ-CP emphasizing the regulation "Safely adapting, flexibly controlling and effectively controlling Covid-19" to achieve the goal of maximum protection, protect people's health and lives; minimize the number of cases, severe disease transfer, and death due to Covid-19; socio-economic restoration and development, ensuring social security, order and safety; realize the dual goal of bringing the whole country to a new normal from the end of 2021.
 
Speaking at the opening of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, Vice President of UNESCO Vietnam National Committee - Head of the Subcommittee on Social Sciences, warmly welcomed the domestic and international delegates to the Workshop in face-to-face and online form.
 
Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh said that over the years, the Vietnam National Commission for UNESCO has worked closely with relevant ministries and agencies, and with specialized sub-committees, including the Social Science Sub-Committee, to strengthen the policy advisory role of social science in the implementation of sustainable development goals. Thereby, the research results are conveyed to the people and policy-making agencies. This is also one of the important tasks of the humanities and social sciences with the function of research and development policy consulting.
 
Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh emphasized: This year, the UNESCO Subcommittee on Social Sciences selected the theme of the workshop "Social recovery and adaptation in the new normal state of the Covid-19 epidemic" to assess the difficulties and challenges awareness of the 4th epidemic wave in Vietnam, and at the same time propose solutions to recovery and adaptation in the social field in order to stabilize and develop the country.
 
Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh suggested, from the sociological approach, the papers presented by experts, focusing on social issues from the perspective of adaptation, resilience and sustainability before the pandemic. The speakers and delegates focused on analyzing the current situation, explaining the characteristics and providing scientific evidence to adapt safely, flexibly, and effectively control the Covid-19 epidemic.

The conference received many presentations from scientists, of which 06 were presented on the following topics: (1) Socio-economic impacts of Covid-19 and resilience, by Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Duc Vinh, Director, Institute of Sociology, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; (2) Labor restoration, employment and labor market adaptation in the new situation, by Dr. Dao Quang Vinh, Former Director, Institute of Labor and Social Sciences, Ministry of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs; (3) Production safety and the role of enterprises in ensuring dual goals in Ho Chi Minh City, by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Thanh Sang, Director, Institute of Social Sciences Southern Region, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; (4) Recovery and adaptation of Education - Training during the Covid-19 pandemic, by Prof. Dr. Le Ngoc Hung, University of Education, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; (5) Impact of Covid-19 on mental health, by Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh, Vice President of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences; (6) Adaptation of Vietnamese families to the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh, Former Director, Institute of Family and Gender, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences.

Speaking at the closing of the Conference, Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh once again thanked the large presence of delegates and scientists, especially the National Committee of UNESCO Vietnam, for the enthusiastic support and cooperation in the activities of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and UNESCO Subcommittee on Social Sciences in Vietnam. Prof. Dr. Dang Nguyen Anh said that the exchanges at the Workshop were very open and the science raised many facts, ideas, and opinions discussed at the Workshop, which were very useful and helpful for policy makers, and at the same time poses new problems, issues that need to be further studied and discussed.
