With the goal of providing the most useful and practical knowledge to young researchers, this year program organizers did not limit the number of staff of each research institution who could be involved but expanded the range to all students in need of training.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr. Pham Minh Phuc, Deputy Director of Department of Personnel and Organization, emphasized the importance of the course to registered students and hoped that it would give students useful knowledge to effectively support them in their professional work. At the same time he hoped students would have opportunities to strengthen connections with students in different departments in order to facilitate further interdisciplinary research.
Dr. Vo Xuan Vinh, Secrectary of Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of VASS shared his happiness with the students and expected that the course would bring young researchers more opportunities to approach interdisciplinary and specialized research knowlege, and to gain experience by working with leading researchers in the social sciences and by giving lectures and participating in actual research practices themselves.
The course on interdisciplinary methods for social sciences included two programs:
Program 1: 3 weeks of study from 18th to 30th of July on the following subjects: empirical social science research processes and the conceptual basis of the research process (taught by Asso.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh); manipulation of research conceptualization (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Huong); social science from the perspective and in the application of sociocultural anthropology (Dr. Pham Quynh Phuong); social science from the perspective and in the application of psychology (Asso.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Mai Huong); social science from the perspective and in the application of economics (Asso.Prof.Dr. Bui Quang Tuan); social science from the perspective and in the application of sociology (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Manh Loi); Research overview, identifying research questions (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Thi Thanh Huong). After 30th of July, the students wrote essays.
Program 2: study from 12th to 20th of August the following subjects: research design for experimental social science (Asso.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh); sample selection in experimental social science research (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Manh Loi); research design practice and sample selection (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Manh Loi /Asso.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh); collecting quantitative data (Asso.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Mai Huong); collecting qualitative data (Asso.Prof.Dr. Phan Thi Mai Huong); data analysis (Asso.Prof.Dr. Vu Manh Loi /Asso.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Huu Minh); overview of the exchange issues, answering questions and preparing for a two-day field trip.
