At the meeting, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan gave Prof. Peter Kornicky an introduction of VASS’ functions and tasks and made an overview of a number of major research programs and projects that were carried out by VASS and of the coordination between VASS and other research institutes and international partners. He also expressed his desire for the cooperation with NAS in cultural and socio-economic research activities as well as more opportunities of exchanging scholars such as scholar exchange programs, swap funds and scholarships from the UK.
Prof. Peter Kornicky showed his deep concern to the training and research collaboration with VASS. He personally had a great interest in the implementation of research activities in Vietnam and believed the bilateral cooperation would be possible through the scholarship and academic exchange programs in the coming time. He promised to share the links and information about the scholarship programs, through which young Vietnamese scholars could obtain more opportunities to be involved in and to apply for research projects as well as short and long term training programs in the UK. In addition to the orientation for collaborative research projects, the both parties had come together to discuss topical issues of mutual interest, such as aging population, social security, or collecting evidences related to Paracel and Spratly Islands, and then came to a conclusion of the direction for future cooperation. The two sides had signed to join the European Consortium for Asian Field Study (ECAF) earlier in June 2013, which was considered as a favorable condition the draft and realization of the future cooperation in research and training activities.
