At the welcome speech, Mr. Nguyen Van Nam, President of Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association for 2013-2019 tenure shared: Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association was established on June 10th, 1986; The relationship between Vietnam and Italy has also undergone 46 years of establishing diplomatic ties (March 23, 1973 - March 23, 2019) and 6 years of establishing a strategic partnership (2013-2019). The establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Italy in 1973 has opened a period of development, cooperation between the two countries and that relationship has been still growing. There were unforgettable milestones for the great progress of the relationship between Vietnam and Italy. Vietnam from a poor, underdeveloped country became a leading political, economic and commercial partner of Italy in Southeast Asia. Since the establishment of a strategic partnership in 2013, Vietnam and Italy have gained notable achievements in politics, economy, socio-culture and people-to-people exchange. Over the last 6 years, economic and trade relations have grown remarkably with a two-way trade turnover of 5 billion USD per year. Cooperation in culture, education, science and tourism have also thrived. With the help of Italian friends, the Vietnamese community was making every effort to preserve and promote the cultural, contributing to bringing people of both countries closer together. Cooperation between localities of the two countries has also been promoted, with many agreements being implemented and achieving many positive outcomes.… These results have a significant contribution of the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association, showing that the stature and position of the Association have been increasingly affirmed, thus contributing to beautifying the relationship between the two nations.
Accordingly, after more than 5 hours of serious work, the National Congress of the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association ended successfully. The congress elected a new executive board and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Bui Nhat Quang, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences as president of the association in the new term.

"Ladies and gentlemen, dear guests,
Dear Congress,
We are so pleased with the outcome of the 5th National Congress of the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association. Being elected as the President of the Association, this is not only an honour to have the trust of the Congress and leaders but also my great responsibility in making more effective activities, further contributing to the development of cooperation between Vietnam and Italy.
As we know, raising the relationship between the two countries to strategy level has shown the comprehensive development in most areas of cooperation. If considered in the context of many fluctuations of the world and the region, with unpredictable changes, intermingling advantages and challenges, the rapid development of Vietnam - Italy ties is the proud achievement of both countries. In particular, there is a positive contribution from the people-to-people diplomacy activities, the activities of friendship organizations from both sides. On the Vietnamese side, it is an active role of the Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association. On the Italian side, it is the activities of relevant organizations such as Italian-Vietnamese National Association of Friendship and Solidarity,, Italia - Vietnam Friendship Association in Veneto region, Lombardia region, Piedmont region, Liguria region and the Centre for Vietnam Studies in Torino…
Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association was established in 1986 in Vietnam, which is a member organization of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations. With more than three decades of operations, the Friendship Association has attracted the participation of a large number of people interested in Italy: incumbent diplomats as well as officials, scientists, social activists, entrepreneurs, Vietnamese alumni who have studied in Italy, university lecturers and young people who are interested in Italy and Vietnam - Italy ties.
The Friendship Association in the 2013-2019 tenure achieved extremely remarkable outcomes; However, it also showed the heavy responsibilities that the new executive board and members must shoulder. As a President, I commit to join hands and contribute to promoting the Association's activities in the right direction, bringing practical effectiveness, meeting the interest and aspiration of members… in order to continue to contribute to the enhancement of strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam - Italy into specific issues, for the benefit of both sides; Specification, implement cooperative activities on many levels, many different areas making the connotation of strategic partnerships more abundant and diverse; Boosting informational advertising, enhancing two-way cooperation; Acting as a bridge to strengthen sharing, understanding each other and linking specific cooperation opportunities for partners of both Vietnam and Italy.
As people who have a deep interest in the development of Vietnam - Italy friendship, I hoped that the members would unite, agree, contribute to promoting the movement and helping the people-to-people diplomacy activities become a channel to share knowledge between friends and partners of the two countries. Since then, contribute to the mutual benefits of many people who have an interest in Italy and Vietnam - Italy relations.
On this occasion, on behalf of Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association, I would like to thank the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Vietnam, the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Vietnamese friends and partners, as well as Italia, have enthusiastically supported our Congress to be successful organized.

Congratulation to the new executive board and President of the 2019-2024 tenure, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic in Vietnam, Mr. Antonio Alessandro had also thanked the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, Vietnam - Italy Friendship Association, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences... for actively cooperating with the Italian Embassy to organize events during the past. At the same time, he expressed his belief that with the young, enthusiasm and devotion of the executive board of the Vietnam-Italy Friendship Association, the relationship between Italy and Vietnam would grow strongly for the common benefit; contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the two regions and the world.
