Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh had a meeting with the delegates of the Technical University of Ostrava and Tomas Bata University, Czech Republic


In the morning of April 1st, 2019, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh had a meeting with the delegates of the Technical University of Ostrava and Tomas Bata University, Czech Republic.

Attending the meeting with the Vice President was Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen An Ha, Head of the Institute for European Studies; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai Le, Head of Scientific Management Board; and M.A. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of the International Cooperation Department… In the guest side, there were Prof. Vaclav Snasel, Rector of the Technical University of Ostrava; Prof. Vladimir Sedlarik, Rector of the Tomas Bata University and Prof. Petr Saha, Vice-Rector of Tomas Bata University…

Opening the meeting, Vice President Dang Xuan Thanh welcomed the appearances of the two universities leaders at the Academy. At the same time, he also briefly introduced the structure, functions, main research tasks of the Academy and the directing points of the leadership about cooperation plans and exchange of scholars in two main areas: research and training. Thereby, he emphasized that the Academy is very interested in the implementation of cooperation programs and plans, which were signed by the Czech Academy and Academy of Science in 2008. However, the implementation of cooperation projects between the two parties has not yet been effective. Vice President hoped that, with the presence of key leaders of two reputable Czech Universities, the cooperation plans between the two sides would have more positive progress in the coming time.

In response to the Vice President, Rector of the two universities also introduced their universities. The Technical University of Ostrava was founded in 1849, located in Ostrava city, is an industrial city in the north of Morava. The Technical University of Ostrava is one of the four largest public universities in the Czech Republic, organized into seven faculties with over 22,000 students studying. With its position and leading role in the career of higher education and applied research of the Czech Republic, its training programs and qualifications are valid throughout Europe and the world. The school's credit system is compatible with the European credit transfer system. Students who learned and accumulated ECTS credits (European Credit Transfer System) at the Technical University of Ostrava, then have the opportunity to choose to transfer to study in European Union countries: England, France, Italy, Germany, Netherlands…

Tomas Bata University has been named after the entrepreneur Tomas Bata who was the originator of the shoe industry in Zlin, Czech Republic. Tomas Bata was known as the last public university founded in 2001 in the Czech Republic. The precursor of Tomas Bata University is the faculty of technology established in 1969; is a modern higher education institution according to European standards. The university is made up of six faculties that provide 170  programs at the bachelor, master and doctoral levels with more than 10,000 students studying; is one of the most prominent centers of research in the Czech Republic and, in many respects, also abroad. With the advantages gained, the Rector of the two universities expressed their desire to cooperate with the Academy in the field of training and exchange research cooperation on social science and humanities issues.

The meeting ended successfully. The two sides agreed to strengthen exchanges, connections, sharing specific cooperation information, contributing to promoting scientific cooperation as well as adding more friendship solidarity relations between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
