Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang – a member of Central Communist Party, President of VASS is the moderator of the international conference and he has had the opening speech at the conference. He stated that the organization of conference in Vietnam showed the concern of Communist Party, Government and VASS with the study of Sino – Nom in Vietnam specifically and scripts in East Asia. The conference could be considered as the place to gather opinions of leading experts in this field in East Asia, especially for researches on values of types of scripts which have been being used in the area. It is also the chance for exchange issues related to ancient scripts then to create a network for scripter.
Besides the opening ceremony and plenary session, the conference is divided into 11 panels for researchers to present 45 writing papers on the following topics: Scripts Education, Scripts Excavation, Scripts and Society, Scripts and Language, Scripts and modern times, Scripts and Character Sculptures, Structure and Translation of Scripts, Encyclopedia (character dictionary, dictionary, wikipedia books so on), Scripts discussion (2 sessions), Scripts Reading and Explanation. Research papers discussed about various interesting topics such as past and present, writing documents and materials such as epitaphs, oracle bone script, metal ware etc. With many cross – industrial explanation, most of research papers has pointed out the role of scripts in East Asian culture. The conference focused on the cultural and historic values of types of scripts in East Asia. It also evaluated the relationship between scripts and civilization, scripts and traditional as well as modern East Asia, especially its role in delivering cultural messages via ancient documents.
There are also activities as cultural examination and performance of Caligraphy organized together with conference.
