Accompanying with President Phan Chi Hieu was Dr. Tran Hoang Long, Executive Vice President, Institute of Northeast Asian Studies; MSc. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of the International Cooperation Department and experts of the International Cooperation Department.
Accompanying Mr. Ri Ho Jun were Mr. Ryom Myong Nam, Counselor and Mr. Kwal Kwang II, staff of the Embassy of the DPRK in Vietnam.
Opening the meeting, on behalf of VASS leadership, Dr. Phan Chi Hieu warmly welcomed the delegation to visit and work at VASS; appreciate the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and North Korea in the past time. At the same time, the President briefly introduced the structure, functions and main research tasks of the Academy. On the basis of cooperation between VASS and the Embassy of North Korea, President Phan Chi Hieu wishes to continue receiving support from the Embassy in cooperation in scientific research, training, association with a foreign ministry. North Korean institutions, research institutes and universities to develop common research directions.
In response to the President, Chargé d'Affaires Ri Ho Jun would like to thank the Academy for the warm welcome and congratulate President Phan Chi Hieu in his new position and wish him excellent completion of his duties service. Mr. Ri Ho Jun highly appreciated the position and role of the Academy as the leading scientific research institution in Vietnam as well as the traditional friendship relationship built by the leaders and peoples of the two countries, cultivated in the past. This has important implications for the implementation of the plan for cooperation in science and socio-economic, cultural, sports, publishing and journalism fields in order to further strengthen the bilateral relationship, friendship to new heights.
Discussing cooperation plans in the near future, Chargé d'Affaires Ri Ho Jun and President Phan Chi Hieu discussed the contents of sending a delegation of the Academy to North Korea to work with the Association of Scientists. Korean society, with the Korean Academy of Social Sciences and social scientists from North Korea's universities, is expected in the fourth quarter of 2023. In addition, VASS will coordinate with the Korean Embassy to organize organizing a workshop on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the armistice on the Korean peninsula conducted by the Institute of Northeast Asian Studies in the second quarter of 2023; organize talks and thematic exchanges between the Academy and the Korean Embassy; organize other activities as agreed with partners and the Korean Embassy in Hanoi; introduce and support Embassy staff to work with VASS's units to find out issues of concern. Expected exchange topics on Party building experience and promoting the ideological strength of the Subject, the people's self-reliance and self-reliance in national construction and defense; Korea's development experience to become a great power; experience in reforming Vietnam's management mechanism and international integration; prospects for strengthening cooperation for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and in the world…
In particular, 2023 will celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Academy and also a year with many important events for the country. President Phan Chi Hieu hopes that the Korean Embassy and VASS will cooperate, many scientific activities to further strengthen people-to-people diplomacy, strengthen the friendship and solidarity of the two Parties and peoples of the two countries, contributing to the successful construction of an increasingly prosperous socialism.
