Together with the attendance of Prof. Kiyotaka Yokomichi, there were Mr. Kiichi Tomiya, Senior Advisor and Ms. Aiko Kitano, International Cooperation Officer. To team up with the President of VASS, in the International Cooperation Department side, there were MA. Nguyen Thanh Ha, the Head of the International Cooperation Department; and in the Institute for Regional Sustainable Development Studies (IRSD), there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Quang Tuan, the Director, Dr. Nguyen Dinh Chuc, the Deputy Director, Dr. Vu Quoc Huy, the Head of Urban and Planning for Regional Sustainable Development Department, and MA.Tran Minh, the Head of Culture – Environment and Regional Sustainable Development Department.
In the meeting, representing as the head of VASS, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan greeted the delegation in their business trip to VASS. The President briefly introduced to the delegation missions, organizational structure and three basic functions of VASS (functioning studies of basic issues in the fields of social sciences, providing scientific evidences for the Party and the State in developing guidelines, strategies, plans, and policies and training high-quality human capital in social sciences and humanity). The President also informed the delegation about some programs and projects that VASS is conducting research on, such as studying scientific and practical basis for the implementation of the Document of the XII Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam; coordinating with ministries, sectors and localities to conduct research and review practice based on which to propose policy solutions for the Government as well as ministries, sectors and localities…

In response to the President of VASS, Prof. Kiyotaka Yokomichi, Vice President of Japan National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS) introduced to the participants about the formation and development of GRIPS for 20 years. In fact, GRIPS functions as a state university but its special characteristics is to be responsible for training senior officials for Japan and international community, undertaking policy research at high level and training masters and PhDs who are members of Japanese and foreign governments. The languages used in training programs are English and Japanese. GRIPS has a close relationship with the government, and there are many lecturers who are former senior government officials. In addition, GRIPS provides short courses for officials. Prof. Kiyotaka Yokomichi hoped to cooperate with VASS in policy research activities.

In the meeting, the two parties discussed and exchanged contents for near future cooperation agreements, research exchange, and construction of research projects that are of both interests such as frequent exchange of information about publications, research work, both parties’ valuation of international and regional issues; coordination in organizing scientific conferences, international workshops about the fields that of both interests. From now, both parties will focus on carrying out a research project for which IRSD is the main responsible, since then develop next research directions during the project.
