Accompanying the Ambassador were Ms. Aygun Samadova, Counselor of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Vietnam and Mr. Tran Dang Manh, Assistant Ambassador. Receiving the Azerbaijan Ambassador delegation with the Academy’s President were: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Chien Thang, Director of the Institute for European Studies; MSc. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of the International Cooperation Department; Dr. Vu Thuy Trang, Director of the Center for SNG and Russian Studies, Institute for European Studies.
On behalf of VASS leadership, Dr. Phan Chi Hieu warmly welcomed the delegation to visit and work at VASS. He briefly introduced the structure, functions and main research tasks of the Academy. At the same time, the President appreciated the diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Azerbaijan over the past 30 years and wished to receive support from the Ambassador to strengthen the cooperation through scientific activities, academic exchange, scholarly exchange, research and training between the two sides.
In response to the VASS President, Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada thanked the Academy for the warm welcome. He highly appreciated the role and position of the Academy as the leading research institution in Vietnam in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The Ambassador expressed his deep respect for the 30 years of good diplomatic relations between the two countries and wished that the two sides would further promote the potential of cooperation through specific scientific activities, exchange scholars online, promote people-to-people exchanges, and enhance understanding between the two countries.
Discussing the cooperation plan shortly, Ambassador Shovgi Mehdizada exchanged relevant contents on strengthening support for VASS and its affiliated units (especially the Institute of European Studies), concluded connecting the leading research institutions and universities of Azerbaijan to share information, sharing development experiences, organizing scientific seminars on issues of mutual interest. In addition, the Embassy will inform the Academy of scholarship programs, training programs in Master's and Doctoral fields, exchanging programs of experts and scholars... to enhance interchange opportunities and improve professional qualifications, knowledge, and work skills. In addition, the two sides will jointly introduce sponsors for publications on science, images and people of Vietnam and Azerbaijan. President Phan Chi Hieu also highlighted the plan to promote the image of Azerbaijan in Vietnam through exhibitions on contemporary history, culture and society at the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology (under the VASS) in the coming time.
The working session ended successfully and promised specific, practical and effective cooperation activities, contributing to further promoting scientific cooperation, people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries. Accordingly, the Institute of European Studies and the Institute of History are two key institutes at the Azerbaijan Academy and Vietnam Studies, which will be the focal point of cooperation with the Azerbaijan Embassy in Vietnam.
