On the afternoon of June 5, 2023, at the head office at No. 1 Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Hanoi, Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) received Mr. Eduardo Paes Saboia, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, to pay a courtesy visit. The reception was honored to welcome Mr. Marco Farani, Ambassador of Brazil to Vietnam.

Opening the meeting, on behalf of VASS leadership, Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh warmly welcomed Mr. Eduardo Paes Saboia, Ambassador and the delegation of the Embassy of Brazil in Vietnam to visit and work at VASS. The Vice President appreciated the cooperation and friendship between the two countries over the past time. Accordingly, Vietnam is an important partner of Brazil in terms of economy and politics. Dr. Dang Xuan Thanh highly appreciated the role of Brazil and Vietnam in contributing to the common peace of the world, especially in the context of the current conflict between China and the US. The Vice President hoped that, through today's meeting, the two sides would understand the purpose of cooperation, understand the context of the world and each country to come up with effective plans, roadmaps and policies for bilateral cooperation.

Responding to Vice President Dang Xuan Thanh, Deputy Minister Eduardo Paes Saboia sincerely thanked VASS for the warm and enthusiastic welcome to the delegation. He said that 2024 is the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Brazil. On this occasion, he wished that the two sides would continue to promote scientific exchanges and cooperation more; exchange experiences in socio-economic development, security-defence, science and technology, foreign affairs and especially experience in participating in large organizations in the world. The Brazilian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs highly appreciated Vietnam's position and role in the common development in the world and in the region. Through this meeting, he wished to learn more deeply about Vietnam's role in ASEAN; Vietnam's foreign policy of peace-cooperation-openness towards superpowers (the US, China...); learn more about Vietnam's potential in economic development, investment, trade and the prospect of participating in major economic and commercial organizations in the world...

Discussing cooperation issues in the coming time, VASS delegates and the Brazilian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs hoped that the two sides would strengthen the organization of seminars and scientific seminars to promote academic exchanges,  science; expanding areas of cooperation and exchange of experiences such as high technology, environmental issues, water security, environment, climate change, green growth, renewable energy, poverty alleviation and language in order to further enhance understanding and enhance people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.

In particular, within the framework of the visit to the Prime Minister of Brazil and the Prime Minister of Vietnam in the near future, VASS and its Brazilian partners will jointly organize a scientific conference and implement the MOU cooperation plan. The working session took place successfully, contributing to consolidating and enhancing bilateral cooperation and promoting the Vietnam-Brazil friendship to a new height for peace and prosperity in the region and around the world.
