Scientific conference “Human development: Achievements, matters, and trends”

In the morning of 10th June 2014, Institute of Human Studies held a scientific conference on “Human development: Achievements, matters, and trends” with the participation of many scientists from different units in and out of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences in Venue 606, No. 1B Lieu Giai, Ba Dinh, Hanoi.

Assoc.Prof. Dr. Luong Dinh Hai in his opening speech for the Conference emphasized the meaning and importance of Scientific Conference “Human development: Achievements, matters, and trends” in today context. He expected that the Conference would be a lively forum for scientists to share new and popular issues to complete the task of summarizing research outcomes of human studies after 30 years of renewal in Vietnam, to recommend practical and theoretical issues to fasten the progress of building policies for human development in the upcoming period and be a significant scientific activity to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of Institute of Human Studies. The Conference discussed basic matters on: Vietnam’s human development in the period of 2001 – 2010; To build and develop human in Vietnam: Achievements and current issues; Influencing factors to human development in Vietnam during the previous period; To develop human in Vietnam in the context of today globalization – limits and causes; Social security: Environment and human development; The quality of human resources: The right to enjoy food…

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Quynh Nam, Institute of Human Studies presented report at the Conference

 

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Quynh Nam, Institute of Human Studies claimed that the difference between rich and poor among regions has increased in recent years (1999, Gini coefficient is 0.39; 2002 is 0.42; 2004 is 0.423 and 2006 is 0.425). The number of poor families mainly live in under developing regions such as remote areas and mountains(the number of poor family in mountains is 1.7 up to 2 times more than the average number of the country).

The difference between living standards will have the consequences on the differentiation of cultural life and influencing the opportunity to approach education which means the higher living standards are, the better education they have and in reserve. In rural areas and remote areas,the labor do not have much opportunity to choose jobs as well as to approach with health services… The actual situation has explained the reasons of inequality between regions and areas for human development.

To evaluate the importance of environment for human development, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Trong Chuan, Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences declared that: Human development is closely linked with natural and social environment. To protect the natural environment well also meant to protect the survival basis for human. However, human is unable to develop their best qualitieswithout a healthy social environment. Therefore, to create a healthy social environment is inevitable condition for developing and completing human…

In addition to confirming the successful implementation of the Millennium Goals such as to remove poverty, to universe primary education, to improve health for moms, to reduce the mortality in children under 5 years old… the scientists together exchanged and suggested new approaches to promote the researches in Institute of Human Studies in upcoming period.
