In the introduction of the seminar, Dr. Tran Quang Minh, Director of Institute for Northeast Asian Studies, emphasized that desire of both people and governments of the two countries (Repulic of Korea and Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) is toward the national unification in term of peace. Therefore, ideas and experience that were discussed and shared by scientists in the seminar have important meaning in process of preparation of unification in the peninsula.
The seminar were divided into 2 sections with 4 speeches that focused on 2 following major issues.
Section 1: National unification in the past and toward development in the future, 2 speakers (Dr. Kyuryoon Kim, senior researcher, KINU and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Sang, Deputy Executive of Vietnam Asia-Pacific Economic Center) emphasized: (1) Importance of Korea’s new unification policy based on a theory of "Unification is a big victory" with 3 directions: (i) Peaceful Unification of peninsula; (ii) Humanitarian aid to Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; (iii) Development of international cooperation in unification of Korean peninsula. Accordingly, establishment of Unification Commission (Korean President’s office) provides 5 modes of operation: (i) Enlargement of people exchange between two regions: the North and the South; (ii) Rebuilding, developing environment between the two regions; (iii) Improvement of human rights in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea; (iv) Researching and finding suitable method of unification; (v) Generating unity of people in the two regions. (2) Process of fighting for and developing Vietnam in form of unification in areas of politics, economy, society and culture from 1975 to now, making advantages for process of international integration.

Section 2: Experience lesson and preparation for unification of Korean peninsula. 2 speakers (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Duong Phu Hiep, Former General Secretary of Central theoretical Council and Dr. Min Cho, Vice President of KINU) provided 19 lessons from Vietnam’s renewal process in aspects of economy, politics, social-culture and foreign affairs, in which tight combination between economic and political renovation, focusing on economic renovation, and application of suitable experience lesson to each nation. Besides, in order to be toward unification of Korean peninsula, Dr. Min Cho analyzed clearly context as well as prospect of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea about this issue in next time.
Four speakers’ speeches received many questions and discussions from representatives. In the summary, the organizer were warmly grateful to presence and highly evaluated comments of Vietnam and Korea’s representatives, and emphasized that scientific contents that were discussed contribute to providing theoretical and practical basis to orient unification of Korean peninsula and preparation process of each region, the North and the South, in the near future./.
