Receiving the delegation with the President of VAST were: AssocProf. Dr. Nguyen Huy Hoang, Director of the Institute for Southeast Asian Studies; MSc. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Head of International Cooperation Department.

Opening the meeting, on behalf of VAST's Leaders, Assoc Prof. Dr. Bui Nhat Quang warmly welcomed Ambassador Jaya Ratnam to the first time visiting and having a working section at VAST; at the same time, briefly introduced the structure, functions, and main research tasks that VAST was undertaking in social sciences and humanities research, policy advice and human resource quality improvement. Accordingly, VAST has played an important role in building the platform and documents of the recent XIII Party Congress. The Chairman hopes that the Ambassador would promote the friendly and cooperative relationship between the two countries in all fields with his new position.
In receiving the speech of VAST President, Ambassador Jaya Ratnam would like to thank the Academy for the warm welcome of the VAST as a leading research institution in Vietnam as well as respect the diplomatic relationship between the two sides. Ambassador highly appreciated the position, the important role of the Academy for planning guidelines and policies for the development of Vietnam. Thereby, it is expected that the two sides would further promote academic exchanges, research and scholar exchanges on climate change issues and other issues in Southeast Asia (Myanmar political conflict; minor Mekong River region, environmental resources ...) to enhance mutual understanding, contribute to promoting friendly cooperation between Vietnam - Singapore in the coming time.

Responding to the suggestions of Ambassador Jaya Ratma, Assoc Prof. Dr. Bui Nhat Quang warmly supported and expressed the VAST's willingness to cooperate, according to which the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies would be one of the key units in Vietnam doing in-depth research on Singapore and the ASEAN region in general. The Institute for Southeast Asian Studies would be the focal point in the cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Vietnam.
