The meeting panorama
Together with the attendance of Minister of The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba (CITMA), the meeting also had the participation of Mr. Herminio Lopez Diaz, Ambassador of Cuba in Vietnam; Ms. Belsis Llorente, Chief of the Ministry Office of CITMA; Mr. Omar Cantillo Ferreiro, Director of Department of Science, Technology and Environment in Guantánamo; Ms. Yamel Ruiz Baranco, Commercial Counsellor, Embassy of Cuba in Vietnam; Ms. Yudisley Cruz Valdes, Commercial Attaché, Embassy of Cuba in Vietnam.
Attending the meeting included, in the VASS side, together with Vice President of VASS, there were M.A. Nguyen Thanh Ha, Director of International Cooperation Department; Assoc.Prof. Dr. Bui Nguyen Khanh, Deputy Director of Graduate Academy of Social Sciences, Dr. Vu Tuan Hung, Deputy Director of Scientific Management Department; MA. Do Thu Huong, Head of the Africa - Europe – Australia Division of International Cooperation Department.

At the meeting, the two parties notified completed tasks according to the cooperation agreement between VASS and CITMA with emphasis on recent activities from the second half of 2015 to present. They are: the business trip of the delegation of Vietnamese economic experts headed by Prof. Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang – President of Vietnam Academy Social Sciences (VASS) to meet some of ministries of Cuba; and the business trip organised by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba in cooperation with Central Committee of implementation of updated economic model of Communist Party of Cuba from 26th to 28th October 2015 in Lahabana the capital of Cuba.
Following that, in February 2016, VASS cooperated with Embassy of Cuba in Hanoi to welcome Prof. Ruvislei Gonzalez, an expert from The International Policy Research Centre (CIPI) under Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba and arrange working schedule with Institutes under the administration of VASS including Vietnam Institute of American Studies (VIAS), Vietnam Institute of Economics (VIE), Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS), Institute of Chinese Studies (ICS), and Institute of State and Law (ISL). The discuss focused on the issues of economic renewal process in Vietnam and experiences for updating the economic model in Cuba, contents of which were external policies, the relations with The U.S, China, and ASEAN; The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement; equitization of enterprises and foreign investment. In the working programme of Prof. Ruvislei Gonzalez, a scientific seminar on the theme of "The economic-socio model of the Cuba in the new context" was organised in the cooperation of VASS and Embassy of Cuba in Hanoi.

In the meeting, the two parties discussed and agreed on the content of cooperation in social science for updating economic model of Cuba and the potential of VASS in scientific training in short courses, internships, master courses and Ph.D programmes for researchers of Cuba. In addition, the 2005 agreement was updated and resigned and new and updated agreements are going to be resigned every 2 year. After the meeting, the Minister of The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA) of Cuba will prepare a draft of the cooperation agreement and send to VASS in order for the two parties to come to the final agreement on the new cooperation agreement. The information between the two parties is connected through The Department of Social Science, The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba and International Cooperation Department of VASS.
At the end of the meeting, the Minister of The Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment of Cuba invited experts of VASS to International Workshop on Science and Technology in Cuba from 31st October to 4th November 2016. This is a valuable opportunity for the two parties to bilaterally discuss and update the result of economic model in Cuba./.
