Prof. Kim Keong IL, Academy of Korean Studies (South Korea), evaluated the history and practical situation of South Korean Studies in the era of globalization claimed that: The establishment and development of South Korean Studies are to fix up the colonial perspectives of researching and to appreciate the nationality as well as the construction of national identity… The pity is studies carried out in different countries have conflict and different opinions. As the result, wherever they are carried out, South Korean Studies need to be promoted to strengthen the understanding of South Korea and share the interests in this nation…
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Viet (Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities), South Korean Studies in Vietnam was officially taught in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city in 1992 and 1994 respectively. And in 1998, it was started to implement by South Korean Studies Department belonged to Institute for Northeast Asian Studies which caused many limitations of South Korean Studies, the researching contents are not harmony, the methodology is not consistent especially those related to political life of South Korea.
To evaluate the practical situation of studying South Korean economy in Vietnam, Dr. Vo Hai Thanh (Institute for Northeast Asian Studies) said that: Until now, there are approximately 300 articles and studies related to South Korea in terms of economics; The number of published books are 20, and the number of journal articles and conferences are 250… However, the quality of them is not high and due to the restriction of researching conditions (most of them are desk study), beside that the approach of documents in Korean is one of the obstacle for researchers in Vietnam are unable to overcome because most of them know only English… To review all the studies on: culture, history, literature, and society… these reports showed the fact that they are still lack and weak. The matter of keeping and connecting information between domestic training and researching agencies is not solved. Meanwhile, the demand for approaching, sharing information and knowledge of South Korean Studies of scholars, researchers, lecturers, and people who are interested in is very high…
Based on the summary of all opinions at the Conference, Dr. Tran Quang Minh, the director of Institute for Northeast Asian Studies emphasized the importance of creating a network of agencies researched on South Korea and digitalizing documents to promote researching and training activities of South Korea Studies in Vietnam. In future, Institute of Northeast Asian Studies will be the focal point, gradually complete the connecting plan of researchers and lecturers in South Korean Studies in Vietnam in terms of human and digital resources.
