On the morning of October 30, 2017, at the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS), Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan - President of VASS welcomed Mr. Shin Kak-soo, Director of International Law Center of Korea Diplomatic Academy (KNDA), Former Korean Ambassador to Japan, Former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea to visit and work at the Academy.

MA. Nguyen Thanh Ha - Head of International Cooperation Department also attended the meeting with Dr. Le Mai Thanh - Editor-in-Chief of the State and Law Journal, expert on international law; Dr. Pham Thi Thuy Nga - Deputy Director, Institute of State and Law; Dr. Nguyen Xuan Cuong - Director of Institute of Chinese Studies; Dr. Hoang Minh Hang - Head of Politics and Security, Institute for Northeast Asian Studies.

Overview of the meeting

On behalf of Academic Leaders, Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan expressed his pleasure to welcome Mr. Shin Kak-soo to visit and work at VASS. The Chairman gave an overview the general organizational structure, functions and duties of VASS; At the same time, he also provided that VASS is focusing on carrying out the document of the document of the 12th Congress of the Party and studying policy consultation Vietnam's economic development in the new context, paying particular attention to the establishment of business institutions. Prof.Dr. Nguyen Quang Thuan emphasized that through the study of Korea, Vietnam wanted to learn about Korea's development experience, thus boosting the Vietnam-Korea strategic cooperation.

 

In response to the VASS Chairman, Mr. Shin Kak-soo thanked the warm welcome of VASS, expressed his pleasure to visit and work at VASS. Shin Kak-soo affirmed that 2017 is an important year, marking the 25th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam-South Korea relationship and opening a new stage of building a stronger cooperative relationship, contributing to the development of each country as well as for the region and the world. He said that the situation in East Asia in general and the Korean Peninsula in particular is very volatile, such as China's rapid rise, geopolitical competition and the birth of a series of New ideologies that greatly influence the world order, South Korea and Vietnam have adopted a wide variety of cooperation to continually contribute to the peace and stability of the region as well. gender. Mr. Shin Kak-soo wishes in the future, cooperation in international law research between Vietnam and Korea will be further strengthened, contributing to the research work of each country as well as the region. Prof. Nguyen Quang Thuan expressed his agreement with Shin Kak-soo's comments on the volatility of East Asia; and he also insisted that the world in general and the region in particular must have appropriate policies and plans to overcome the challenges and take advantage of opportunities to promote stability and peace.
