There are leaders and managers from specialized research institutes and unit members of VASS to participate in the seminar. The lecturers for seminar are Prof. Motoh Shimizu, an expert on project management (Graduate School, Nippon Institute of Technology) and Dr. Tomoichi Sato (Nikki Co., Ltd).
After the introduction of seminar, the learners listened to lectures from Prof. Motoh Shimizu and Dr. Tomoichi Sato on Strategic program management in P2M (especially on social sciences). They are: (1) Organization’s strategy and implementation; (2) The procedure of overall management; (3) Strategy and risk management, organizational project management activities; (4) Evaluation on balancing values (BSC, CSF, KPI, Value Driver).
Under the enthusiastic instruction of lecturers, the learners were divided into six groups to discuss and practice exercises on: (1) The changes in social environment and issues of VASS from the social sciences research perspective and Vietnam perspective; (2) Strategy of social sciences research; (3) Case studies and building and suggesting for strategic program. After the seminar, six groups presented their outcomes of building strategic program: General organizational management of VASS and unit members (Institute of Psychology, Institute of Sociology); Implementation of research issues (Social inequality; environmental protection) for lecturers, lecturers’ assistances and other groups to discuss, assess, mark and rank.
Via study, practice and exam for each group in combination with mark result, the first group with a subject of “To form draft or VASS’s strategic program” achieved highest score and followed by the sixth group with a subject of “Strategic Program of Institute of Regional Sustainable Development on environmental protection” and the 3rd place is fourth group with a subject of “Establishment of postgraduate training institutes of VASS.” All of 30 learners completed successfully the seminar program and received certifications that were signed by President of VASS and Chief Representative of JICA in Vietnam from Sir Fumihico Okiura, Vice Chief representative of JICA in Vietnam and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Tuan.

After three seminars in two levels (basic and advanced), Prof. Motoh Shimizu highly appreciated the research ability of learners through understanding and following knowledge taught by lecturers. To represent board of organizers, Sir Fumihico Okiura, Vice Chief representative of JICA in Vietnam, expected knowledge from this seminar will be applied in practice and contributed to raising ability and position of VASS in terms of social sciences research under these changes in today socio – economy. To represent VASS, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Minh Tuan, Director of Organization and Personnel Department delivered the closing speech for the seminar.
The seminar on Project and Program Management for VASS’s staff successfully ended that significantly encouraged the cooperation and support between VASS and JICA as well as the relation of Vietnam and Japan in the future.
